CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OF CATANIA
ENRICO BENAGLIA
MEDITERRANEAN SPLENDOUR
PRESS
After nine years after the major retrospective held at the Centro Cultural de "chimneys", Master Henry Benavidez returns to exhibit at Catania.
From January 29 to February 13, 2011 open to the public at the Hall of the Cries of the Chamber of Commerce, the exhibition "Henry Benavides - Mediterranean Splendor" where light and water, dream symbols and constants are able to engage an audience enraptured by the narrative language of the soul and light of stories, old loves, the universal breath. At the heart of the paintings there is often a man and woman and their relationship with the beautiful Mare Nostrum.
The exhibition, at the invitation of dr. Peter Agen, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Catania, is curated by Alida Maria Sessa and presented in the catalog by Pietrangelo Buttafuoco.
In the preface, Alida Maria Sessa said that "the exhibition is built around the private memories, the opportunities of a scenery full of secret beauty at hand. It celebrates the diffused light coming from the sea, the clean air of the sky swept by the north wind that makes the exact contours of the high costs rising, the pasty color of the houses, lush bushes. "
Henry Benavides, painter, draftsman, etcher, lithographer, designer, sculptor, born in 1938 in Rome, where he lives and works. Outside of the major "art centers" concept of the sixties and early seventies, thanks to the authenticity of his painting, comes in contact Benavides with a cultural world of poets and actors, such as Luciano Luisi, Renato Civello, Claudio Rendina, Mario Lunetta, Walter Majestic, Biagio Proietti, Nanni Fabbri, Riccardo Cucciolla, Gabriella Sobrino, Umberto Serafini, Laura Gianoli, Guido Ruggiero, who contribute to the development and further definition of his poetic world.
His artistic life is marked by a large interest in lithography, engraving and setting. Since the eighties Benavides is placed permanently in the national art scene by identifying the original iconography and symbolic linked to the world of fables and mythology. The strong commercial and critical success is confirmed dal susseguirsi, a partire dagli anni Novanta, di grandi mostre istituzionali in Italia e all'estero. Some of his most famous painting cycles have been exhibited at unusual and evocative locations such as airports Charles de Gaulle in Paris and New York JFK, as well as in prestigious venues such as the Italian Cultural Institutes of Strasbourg, Madrid and Vienna and even the Embassy of Italy in Tallinn.
The exhibition, curated by the organization Edarcom Europe Contemporary Art Gallery in collaboration with the Horizons Art Gallery, si compone di ventiquattro opere pubblicate in un accurato catalogo edito dalla Domenico Sanfilippo Editore.
